Ferrous Metal

Any metal containing iron is referred to as Ferrous Scrap. Steel is an alloy of iron that contains carbon. Since pure iron is a soft metal, carbon is almost always added to iron to make steel. More than than 60% of steel produced in the US comes from recycled scrap metal. Ferrous metal can be found in buildings, automobiles, ships, trains, heavy equipment, and much more.

Non-Ferrous Metal

Non-Ferrous metal is a metal, including alloys, that does not contain iron in appreciable amounts. Generally more costly than ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals are used because of desirable properties such as low weight, higher conductivity, non-magnetic properties, resistance to corrosion and more!

Recycling non-ferrous metal is especially important to the sustainability of the environment.

High Temp Alloys

High Temp Alloys are mixtures of various metals, including stainless steel, chrome, nickel, iron, copper, cobalt, molybdenum, tungsten, titanium and more! They can resist high heat and corrosion more effectively than standard carbon steel.

Automobiles

Automobiles are the most recycled consumer product in the world today. Every year over 25 million tons of material is recycled from old vehicles. Also, every year the automobile recycling industry in the US and Canada provides sufficient steel to produce roughly 13 million new vehicles. About 80% of a vehicle (by weight) is recycled and the remaining 20% that can’t be recycled is termed “auto shredder residue”, which includes ferrous, non-ferrous metal pieces, dirt, glass, fabric, paper, wood, rubber, and plastic.

CRV

CRV, or California Redemption Value, is the amount paid to consumers when they recycle select beverage containers at certified recycling centers. Typically this is $0.05 or $0.10 for each can or bottle. In California, about 24.5 billion CRV eligible containers were sold. Of those, more than 18.5 billion were recycled. Since 6 billion cans and bottles ended up in the landfill, nobody claimed the CRV on them. How much? More than $100 million worth! Recycle your cans and bottles with Scrap Solutions today!
